Welcome to the Essential Skills Program’s “I Am Self-Aware” training!
This training course has been designed to scroll like a website page, along with a drop-down menu to show each section and your progress. The sections are required, but the pace is up to you!

You will go through a total of 5 videos, on average 2-7 minutes long. All videos have transcripts and closed captions in addition to audio.

Each video is followed by open-ended or multiple-choice questions. Some of the open-ended questions are self-reflections just for you, while others may be completed in group settings, either online or in-person. This will be up to your instructor or trainer.

The learning outcome of this training will help you understand:

  • what being self-aware means
  • why employers value it
  • how to build a self-aware mindset
  • how to use action steps to practice self-aware behaviors

At the end of the training, you will provide feedback on your experience.

Are you ready? Let’s go!

Think about a time when you realized you really liked, or really disliked, work or a project you were doing. Did you think more deeply about it to figure out exactly what made you enjoy or not like what you were doing? If a similar situation has come up since then, have you made adjustments to what you were doing based on your past experiences?

Do you set boundaries when you know there is a chance you’ll feel stressed or stretched too thin? On the other hand, what are the kinds of opportunities you jump at, or excite you, because you know you’ll do them well?

All of the following are part of a self-aware mindset, EXCEPT:

  • Sometimes you have to put in work to “get to know” yourself by asking questions
  • You are willing to test your boundaries with various new experiences
  • Often, it is best to go along with a group, or what someone else tells you, instead of having your own opinions
  • You aren’t fooled by a good mood or bad mood–you know your own tendencies
  • You are a combination of all of your past experiences and who you are right now
